Dissolution Of Marriage
In order to get divorced in Florida you must prove that a marriage exists, that one party has been a resident for at least six months prior to the filing of the divorce action and that the marriage is irretrievably broken.
Once a petition for dissolution is served on the other spouse, certain financial disclosure is due in forty five days. The parties must attend then attend mediation. Mediation is a procedure to allow the parties to reach an agreement on any relief sought. If the parties fail to reach an agreement, then a hearing can be set before the judge. A final hearing can be requested once the pleadings are closed and discovery is completed.
